2nd Disco card approved and 4th Amex!

I can't thank this forum enough for my continued credit rebuilding success. I try to garden, I swear I do!  And I have actually slowed down quite a bit, but there were a few more cards that I felt would be great additions to my lineup, so I positioned myself to applyj!

My Discover IT was opened back in late May of last year, SL of $1400, now sitting at $4100.  A little backstory with that one: I had a Discover card prior to that one, several years back. It ended up going 120 or 150 days late, and I was enrolled into their Hardship Program. I paid it off 3 years early, and literally 2 days after I PIF, I was let back in again, unsecured, $1400.  Mind you, prior to paying that account off completely, they wouldn't even approve a secured card.  Applied yesterday for Discover Miles card and approved for $10K!! I couldn't believe it, honestly. I did the app over the phone, as my EQ is frozen, and wanted to find out if they would be able to pull TU or EX instead (they did: TU, with a FICO8 score of  698).  Forgot to ask what my APR is, but I got 0% interest for 14 months and 10.99% for BT.

Also approved for Amex SPG on 7/31 after being denied 40 days prior. This is my 4th Amex, with a SL of $2K.  I was also in a Hardship program with Amex, which I also paid off 3 years early, about 18 months ago. Amex pulled EX of course, 689 FICO 8.  As another data point, since being approved for my SPG, PRG, and BCE, I haven't received anything but SP for all 3 approvals, ranging from June through end of July.

After getting these approvals, I promptly emailed Fingerhut and requested they close my account, and also closed another low limit card with Comenity. It's a great feeling to be getting the approvals I want, while also being able to weed out the accounts that I feel I no longer need!  AAoA: 3.8 years, oldest account: 23 years old, last late: 28 months ago.

Congrats on your 1st Amex!! Which card did you get? I've been a cardholder on and off for 23 years.  I haven't ever been asked for POI, even when opening 3 cards fairly close together. From what I have learned on these forums, what seems to trigger income verification is a CL increase/limit of $50K or more, but perhaps others can chime in on that.

Thank you, Cherekas, and a big congrats to you, as well!! I'm loving that Amex is doing this for their members. I've always been very pleased with Amex, overall, and this is just one more thing to like about them! Smiley Very Happy

Thanks so much, AJC!!!  And you're so right, there are times when stepping out of the garden can really be worth it, and I feel confident this was one of those times!  I am very happy with the results, especially Disco. I'm wondering if that will end up having any impact on future CLI's with my Discover IT.  I have been stuck at $4100 for a few months now, but that's okay, I am absolutely not complaining!

As for Fingerhut, I know what you mean. Honestly, I probably would have just kept it open, but what got me was them having given me those temp increases a few times, then decreasing back down again when I don't spend what I need to spend to maintain them.  I was increased a few months back to $2200, but decreased back down to $1700 because I didn't spend enough. I don't like seeing that on my CR and I get a bit paranoid about other lenders taking some kind of AA if they see my limits being decreased, even for a small amount.  I am sure I'm just overthinking, but hey, my limits are now over $300K total, and don't want anyone messin' with them! LOL! Smiley Wink

Re: 2nd Disco card approved and 4th Amex!

@Snowman,

I wasn't asked for POI, I simply submitted them all online and was instantly approved without additional questions. Amex BCE and Amex PRG were pre approvals and Delta Skymiles was a cold app.

Re: 2nd Disco card approved and 4th Amex!

Lol, OhReally, thats EXACTLY what happened to me with Fingerhut. I made it to $2200 myself then they started the temporary credit limit unless you spend that amount deal. I didnt mind spending $100, i just buy some sneakers or what not but i wasnt going to spend $400 just to make it permanent. By this time my profile was growing so i said enough was enough i dont want to play that game. Give me an increase for good responsible use of my account but dont play credit one games with my heart lolSmiley Wink.

Wow! Congrats on hitting the 300k clubSmiley Happy
