Re: AMEX Approved!!!

Back in July, I applied for and was approved for the PRG. Immediately after I was approved I applied for and was again approved for the Gold Delta. I ended up with one INQ in each of my CRs in total. It is my understanding that I would have had that happen regardless of my Delta app, since I believe my approval was borderline ($2k CL on the Delta) and I had been denied by Amex multiple times before.

Amex BCE ($15k), TE ($5k), BoA BBR ($600), Cash Rewards ($600), Barclays Sallie Mae ($6k), CapOne Quicksilver ($4k), Chase Freedom ($5.8k), CSP ($11k), Marriott (9k), IHG (12k), DCU ($6k), Discover IT ($6.5k)
TU - 4 INQ, EX - 7 INQ, EQ - 3 INQ

That sounds normal. When you apply for a second card it will be a HP if approved. With borderline cases Amex will sometimes pull multiple reports.

Re: AMEX Approved!!!

The idea is that while you have your card Amex does periodic SPs to see how your credit looks. When you apply for a new amex card they look at the last report they pulled for the initial approval/denial. If they approve you then they do a new HP to determine what type of CL is appropriate. I don't know if it has happened to anyone, but I suppose its possible they could approve you on a SP and then when they do the HP they see something crazy they did not expect and they change their approval to a denial. Havne't really heard of that happening much if at all.

Re: AMEX Approved!!!

Just want to caution, it's not a guarantee to receive a sp if declined. There have been some reports of current Amex cardmembers who were declined and received a hp. Finally, the SP if declined is reserved for primary cardmembers only. If you are an ACM and apply - if your app is declined it will result in a hp.

Re: AMEX Approved!!!

I tried my luck on the Delta Gold, and I guess my luck ran out. That's ok though - just happy to be in with AMEX.

I am looking to get another CC and have thought about an AMEX, currently I have a 644 fico which is odd since my Trans Union is a 732? With that said I have no late payments and CC's are at 30-50% usage and being paid down as we speak. Do you think Amex will approve? If not the Amex I travel pretty frequently, so I was also thinking about either a discover or delta miles card?

Any thoughts?

I would hold off based on the current utilization.   I don't think AMEX would approve with that level of utilziation.   Is that monthly utilization or have you been carrying a balance?

And OP: way to go!   You will love your PRG.
