Re: Amex BCE approval for student

This is great news. I will go ahead and apply for the BCE in about a month or two( I know it's not a guarantee) hopefully it's a successful app!

Re: Amex BCE approval for student

I added him as an AU to my NFL Ravens Visa ($500 CL) in December. Heavy usage on that card due to low limit and 0% interest. At that time, he only had the Cap1 card at a $300 CL. I am rebuilding, so I don't have any prime cards and my highest CL is $1000. He doesn't use his cards that much and always pays in full. Last night, he complained that he has too many cards. Lol! Funny, but I like it. Smiley Happy

Starting Scores: (4/16/12 lender pull) TU 596 | EX 550 | EQ 576
Current Score (9/3/15): Wally TU 639 | Amex EX 628 | DCU EQ 639
Goals: Homeowner as of 9/27/2013. Last app 8/1/15. TU-5; EX-16; EQ-13. Aiming for ZERO inqs.

$16,500 part-time job. He is a full-time student, employed since July 2011 with same employer. No rent. His score is 720, per Amex approval letter.

Re: Amex BCE approval for student

I'm considering going straight for the BCE next year when my last CA/CO drop off my reports.  I'm a full-time student and make around $12k annually.  I've read that the revolvers are easier to obtain for students with good credit because the income requirements aren't as stringent.  I don't know if there's any truth to that, but your son's approval makes me think it might be the case.

Just found out that my 19-year-old was approved for American Express BCE after a mini app spree. So here is his credit profile now:

3 student loans
Capital One Journey $500 (May or June 2012)
Discover More $1500 (Jan 2013)
Citi Forward $2500 (March 2013)
Chase Freedom (March 2013)
Amex BCE (March 2013)

The CLs for Chase and Amex were not disclosed.

I'm just surprised that Amex approved him. From what I've read here, Amex Green is what people need to get their foot in the door.

Now, I'm hoping he'll learn a few things from me and take care of his credit (and not make the mistakes that I did). He's a responsible kid overall, just hoping he stays that way. Smiley Happy

... I'm taking him gardening...

Amex is actually very generous to credit builders. If you have 6 months of perfect credit history you'll be approved for just about any Amex card. Congratulations to your son! I hope he joins the forums one day! Cat LOL

I'm no expert, but your credit profile looks better than my son's was when he applied. Smiley Happy
