Approved CSP, Matching credit lines

I brought this up before, and some scoffed, but I really believe the card companies compete with each other on credit lines. Any thoughts?

Yesterday I was approved for the CSP with a credit line of $17,000. In June, I applied for a AMEX BCP got a credit limit of $16,400 -- which exactly matched my combined Chase Freedom and United Explorer limits. To the penny.

I only have five credit cards -- Arrival, Freedom, BCP, Explorer and now the Sapphire Preferred -- and it seems as though they really are jockying with each other to top the highest limit by a small amount. Has anyone else experienced this?

Re: Approved CSP, Matching credit lines

Merrill Lynch/BoA likely did the same thing when they approved me for $25,000.00 on the Merrill+ card a few days ago. The beat out my Amex BCP limit of $24,000.00 and it was likely intentional

Re: Approved CSP, Matching credit lines

I think this is what happened with my Discover It card. My highest limit before responding to an invitiation to apply was OCCU Duck @ 5k. Discover instant approval was for 5.5k (making it my highest CL)

Seedling:

Discover It 5.5K / OCCU Duck 5K / Sportman's Guide Visa 5K / Walmart Discover 4.2K / Citi AA Amex 3.5K / Chase Freedom 2K / Cap1 Quick Silver 2K / BOA Cash 2K / Amex BCE 1K - Too many store cards to list!

Garden since 11/14/2013 - No need to apply for any new credit until closing on my home! (Summer 2015)

Re: Approved CSP, Matching credit lines

When I was approved for my Chase card, they beat my at the time highest CL by $100. Discover, however, did not and gave me my lowest limit at the time.

Re: Approved CSP, Matching credit lines

Absolutely, my Costco card matches a Wells Fargo card I'm an AU on.

P.S. I do think you have to be CLOSE, that is their system won't greatly increase what it would've otherwise given you to match another card, but it will increase it somewhat.

American Express Blue Cash Everyday - $11,000; American Express Platinum Cashback Everyday - £3,000; American Express Rewards Credit Card - £7,500; Aqua Reward Mastercard - £3,500; Bank of America Travel Rewards - $5,000; Barclaycard Freedom Rewards - £3,500; Citi Forward - $5,800; Discover It - $10,000; Halifax Clarity - £1,500; HSBC Platinum with Rewards - $5,000, MBNA Everyday Plus - £3,500

Re: Approved CSP, Matching credit lines

Congrats on a great card

Before you app think...
Have you done your research of the CC?
Does it fit your spending?
Do you have a plan for the bonus w/o going into debt?
Can you afford the AF?
Do you know the cards benefits? Is it worth the HP?
