Decided to apply today on a whim. Figured I wouldn't get approved and I would try again later this year but I am going on a few roads trips in the next month and a half and I wanted to use the cash back on the gas and groceries so I figured why the hell not.
I was approved instantly.
My stats as of two weeks ago when I pulled Equifax from here
Cap 1 Best Buy $0/$1200 (opened 2010)
Citi Forward $4000/$6400 (opened 2008)
CU Visa $0/250 (opened 2006)
Car loan $12719/$16402 (opened 2011)
Student loan $6000 (opened this past January, deferred b/c still in school)
My Equifax was 707 last time I checked my Score Watch here. Have two inquiries from December of 2011 when I was shopping for a car loan and that is it. Income $30K/yr.
Really didn't expect to get approved, much less instant approval at that because I know my debt ratio is too high on my Forward card and on my auto loan. But I think the fact that I have only two inquiries more then 12 months old helped because I know Amex is inquiry sensitive. And I've never been late with a payment or have any other baddies on my account. I'm assuming that I will probably get a 2K limit when my card comes in the mail but that is okay. I don't need more then that and that will help me pay in full each month. Really excited for this. I never thought I would be able to became a Amex member (as a kid, I always assumed they were for rich people or government spies (like James Bond). And I'm turning 26 next month so I'm looking forward to being a Amex member for many years to come.
Thank you so much myFico forums members! Wouldn't have been able to do this without spending the last few months reading all your wonderful posts and learning about credit do's and dont's! Off to the garden now!
Congratulations. I called this number last night: 1-800-567-1083 (from the backdoor thread and recommended by LS)
Automated and it gave me the credit limit about 30 minutes after I was approved.
Congrats! You will LOVE your BCP. Mine is my "go to" card and the rewards pile up very quickly. I know already that I won't have to fork over the annual fee. Rewards will take care of that.
Just called the number and it's $2K like I thought. Awesome. I'm totally happy with that.
And thank you both! I actually spend about $400-$600/month on groceries (I live at home while I work and go to school full time and don't pay rent, so I buy the groceries in the house for my parents, me and my three college age brothers and it's quite easy for me to spend $200 in one grocery trip). Add that with the amount I spend on gas, and I think the rewards will overcome the annual fee.

Easily! I don't spend that much on groceries and have received cash back >400.00 since last August.
Congrats! Got mine at the beginning of the year and I am loving it!
Congratulations and welcome to the Amex Blue family!!!
Thank you all again. It's been over two hours and I'm still pretty happy!
Congrats! You have a nice little seedling to take back to the garden with you.
