I have an unsecured Cap 1 MC that was approved with a $500 CL. The paper that came with the card said that I'd be getting a CLI (didnt specify an amount) by the 7th statement if I used the card at least once and paid the minimum on time each month. Well, last night the 6th statement cut  and I received a $2000 CLI. They didnt email me, there are no new docs in the account or anything.

Congrats! My sixth statement should cut tomorrow on my Plat MC and I am excited to see what I get from Credit Steps seeing as they have been quite generous lately. I rarely use the card but we will see. My sixth statement for my QS1 cuts next week, so I am excited for that one as well!

HI :-)  I had a similar pleasant surprise just this week ...... i have a secured Cap 1 and also an unsecured Quicksilver ( which was a product change from platinum and part of credit steps ) ..... my original limit with credit steps was 500 and i was to be bumped up to 750 , and when my statement cut the other day they raised me to 2500 instead !!!! I was like whaaaaaaaat ?  So needless to say i was VERY happy .  So they may not be the best but i heart them lol .....

Thank you and good luck !   I know they want to see you use the card, which i do .  I never pay it off unfortunately but i do always make above the minimum payments .  Whatever it is im doing im glad they are generous like that !  Cap 1 may not be prime but they are good to me when i need it :-)

Another update on my Cap1 MC card. Started at $500 (May 2014), received an auto $2K CLI ($2500CL) in Nov 2014, got the card upgraded to a Quicksilver last month by simply calling their customer service # and this month, I went in and requested a CLI online and it was instanly approved for another $2k CLI, bringing the CL to $4500. Not bad considering I've had the card for almost a year and a half. I generally pay the card off every month but sometimes I dont and it carries just a small balance.
