Re: Discover

My AAoA was only 5 months and I was approved for Citi Double Cash, Discover it and American Express BCE. But my score was 740 or so. I have no clue how I have that kind of score with only 6 months AAoA. My profile at time was Barclay Apple, QS and QS1 and some store credit cards--a pretty thin profile.

If I appy for a discover card will it give me the option of secured if I dont qualify for the unsecured?? Current EQ score 691. Only one baddie my student loan which still hasnt been picked up after 10 months of rehab.
Have only cap1 secured reporting cl 1401 and not reporting yet is cap1 plat cl 1000.

You don't need to worry about getting an "option" to get the secured card anymore.

While Discover never used to market their secured card, you can now apply for it online:

How long ago did you apply? Currently I only have one card reporting soon to be two. I do have 10 years aaoa though.

Like others stated, smart move to wait until your score update with the new util %. With a 10yrs AAoA, I would say you are good for a minimum SL of 5k plus. I say go for it then. I just want to go ahead and congrats you now for the approval. Smiley Happy

Re: Discover

I knew of an instance where someone applied through my referral link for the regular Discover It, got denied, and the only other option they gave her was to go on a joint account with someone else in order to be offered a line of credit. So I don't know if Discover offering secured cards in lieu of a regular card denial. FWIW I got a Discover It student card last July going into my senior year with 0 credit history. I think it's somewhat random.
