I just happened to check my preapproal offers like I do occasionally. I've had prequalified offers from American Express a couple times in the last few months but I always blow them off because I figured I would still get denied.
I have lots of old baddies on my file from 6+ years ago. So I just assumed if I applied I would be denied or get a small 500 or 1000 approval. I've even stated that in a couple posts on here. The baddes were chargeoffs that I went back and paid and a repo that I settled with.
But everything has been paid on time since then and I do have a pretty long history with two mortgages, a few accounts that I was able to keep with some history, sams club mc, walmart, etc.
Got the $250 welcome offer on the prequalify page today and decided to give it a shot. Figured if I was approved, even for a small amount, I would get 250 out of the deal. And if denied it would only be one inquiry.
WEll, I WAS APPROVED FOR 15000. I almost fell out my chair.
I do have a few credit cards with limits that high and higher but just wasn't expecting Amex to jump in with that at the beginning.
Real kicker is they were one of the companies that charged off back in 2010. I did go back and pay it ( about 1800) about 2 years ago.
My current EX fico is 698, with 2% utilization on about 200K available.
