William Sonoma Visa approval

I've been fiddlin' with the William Sonoma site for a week trying to trigger the SCT and today it finally popped up ... it asked for social security number and I used all zeros except for last 4 digits ... approved for $2,000.00.   Smiley Happy

I started building from no credit score (for all three agencies) November 3rd 2016.

- Primor secured card: $500.00 CL

- Opensky secured card: $400.00 CL

- Cap1 Platinum secured: $200.00 CL

- J Crew $1000.00 CL (used SCT - soft pull)

- William Sonoma Visa $2000.00 CL (used SCT - soft pull)

CURRENT:

TU 709 / EQ 710 / EX no score

5 month history

12 inquires

average 6% utilization

income: 65k

Anticipate an increase from Cap1 next month and graduate to Platinum unsecured in October.

I'm in the garden until Feb 2018 (when all my inquiries fall off).

Re: William Sonoma Visa approval

Update: Comenity did do a hard pull (Equifax) on this, even though I applied via the SCT and only entered the last 4 digits of my ssan ... dropped my score 2 points. FYI.

Just to clarify, with the SCT trick and the last 4 - it will only ask you for the last 4 of your social, not that it will only require the last 4.  There was a thread about someone's girlfriend getting the WS card and when I put the same item in, I got the popup for the WS Visa Signature and it was only asking for my last 4 (I did not accept the card).  To be honest, I am surprised that it went through with you entering zeroes and it didn't decline for an invalid social.  Regardless, congrats on the approval - that should report as a Credit Card rather than a Store (or Retail) Card (my BJ's and Target MasterCard do at least) and is your first unsecured major credit card!

Yes, I learned this by trail and error.

I'm still holding my breathe on this one until I have the card and have made a purchase with it (without it being declined). I've read that Comenity has sometimes / sometimes not cancelled WS Visa if only 4 digits are used. Live and learn ... Smiley LOL

Re: William Sonoma Visa approval

General SCT rule

If its for a store card, it usually soft pull

If its for Sportsmans Guide Visa, its usually a soft pull

If its for any other bankcard, its usually a hard pull

It hs nothing to do with asking for last four or full ssn as Ive seen storecards ask for full ssn

Re: William Sonoma Visa approval

Sorry about the HP, but congrats, nonetheless! WS is a great store.

I don't think Comenity is garbage -- they can have a place in a builder/rebuiIder's profile, just as long as you use the card to your advantage, not theirs. Sounds like you've already done your homework on Comenity so well done, you.  Most valuable piece of advice I can offer is to not add inquiries too quickly after acquiring the card. I believe they HP EQ and SP EXP (or vice versa) so they broadly look at your activity and as others have written, are known to shut down the card quickly.

I have several Comenity cards for stores where I actually shop. I don't carry the cards, they can look up the account with my driver's license. I always PIF before the statement cuts and they have all grown quite nicely over the past year. Good luck and again, congrats!
