So I had a Cap 1 card with a $500 limit for 2 years and my credit greatly got better in those 2 years. No negatives on report, score around 760. 6 months ago I got a Discover card with a $1500 limit. I'm trying to get my limits up since I want to apply for a mortgage soon. I did the whole Cap 1 executive office thing and explained I will by buying a home soon and would like a credit increase for things that go along with it but can not have a hard pull due to the mortgage application soon. Cap 1 was FANTASTIC. no hard pull and in 3 days my limit was upped to $3500. I was told by Discover that after 6 months of having their card, I can ask for increase. I did and they told me a hard pull only for any CL increase request. I said no. I've never been late, use the card frequently and always pay, my current balance was $15. I emailed the customer relations explaining and they said the same, hard pull only. I dropped it and was very mad, especially after how Cap 1 came thru. Well I got an email today, a week later, congrats on your credit increase....a whopping $200 increase. Really? I have a perfect credit report, a 760 score, never late with a payment etc and they move me from $1500 to 1700? Very unhappy with them!
Congrats on the Cap! Sorry to hear on the Discover...but still better than nothing.
