Long time lurker of this forum, first time posting. I wish I had found this forum long ago, better late than never I suppose. I've been slowly working on repairing my credit report and have been learning what best ways to go about doing so from reading what others have been posting on here. Last week I applied for a cashReward NFCU credit card and was approved for $3000 (largest cc line of credit to date), today while reading about their NavCheck I decided to call NFCU and inquire about. I went ahead and pulled the trigger and had them run my report to see if I would qualify...they asked how much I would like to apply for ($500-$15,000)...I just took a stab in the dark and said $5000...well guess what...they approved me...probably should have asked for more...lol. My current fico scores are as follow: EQ 631, TU 645, EX 664 Fico 8 (I have an unhealthy amount of inquires...average of about 15 on each, 3 old accounts that had gone to collection that have been paid off long ago...amounts were between $110-$300, a few old late payments). I've been approved for $100K home loan (income is $74K)...but it's not enough, looking for at least 150-175K so not looking at applying for any new credit for a good while now..just "garden" as y'all say around here and concentrate on paying off some loans/debts and aim at around the low 700s in the short term.

Mortgage broker? I had gone through a regular mortgage loan officer. How's a mortgage broker work?
congrats on your two Navy approvals; they can be great to help build

I believe those two terms are interchangeable. But having a 74k income and only approved for a 100k mortgage just isn't right. I was making half of that and was approved for 155k. Is your DTI ratio very high? You should be approved for at least 200k with your income.
