OP have you considered asking Amex to PC your card to the no-AF BCE in lieu of closing it? Good luck with whatever you decide.

Actually, the letter seems to be exactly spot on:
Public Record filing
Short history with AMEX
Lots of INQ in the last year.
Any one of those, absent the others, might be fine, but in combination the computer started having second thoughts.
Note: No mention of Capital One account combination as a trigger.
OP, you should just continue using the card if you get good rewards back out of it. Stop apping, PIF, and soon you will be able to get a new CLI. The way to deal with AMEX is to show them your charge / payment activity. CL are easy come, easy go with AMEX, and can come back.

That's a possibility. And yes it was on there when I originally applied back in June.
How many INQ since June?

So, I had combined two of my capital one quicksilver one cards that I don't use anymore, which are both about a year and three months old, to my Venture card so I would have a 10k limit. Well, as soon news of one of the '' closed and paid" accounts showed up on my experian alerts, two days later, AMEX reduced my credit limit on my BCP from 3.5k to 1k! I'm so infuriated! All I did was move limits and close two accounts that I do not use. I recieved an email from AMEX this morning with the info, also saying that I would get a letter about it as well. Should I call to explain my situation so they can review it?Unless you have long history or high income, Amex does not like 10k. They did not AA me, but could not get cli. Broke the card up into two, much better.
Can you please elaborate what you mean? 10K on one card? I have a (relatively) short history, low income, and a 10K Amex. They seem to love me so...
They do not care if it is on their card, they do not like it on other cards, especially flexible spending limit.
Ups...had no idea..already over 3x my income with my CLs I hit the CLI button on activation on SPG and got the 20K I requested approved. I did it mainly because AX slashed down my limit on BCE from 25K to 14K and gave me 11K on SPG. So I figured for a HP they could approve a little more than I had before. I guess I should not be so greedy in the future 😛

This would also be my path. Try to reinstate and if no chance explain that with a 1K limit you rather have the BCE and not pay the AF. Once you have a decent CL you would be happy to upgrade to BCP again and see how that goes.

Before asking to convert to BCE, I would do some quick check of my spending. If the card can be devoted to groceries (and maybe some gas), and your spending is fairly even, you can still hit the max $6K a year with a $1K limit. If you do spend $6K, then you have to consider if the worrying about utilization is worth the extra $105 in rewards. If you spend less, the extra rewards are less and going for BCE seems more attractive
OP, that letter from Amex smells.
Oh, in other news AXP stock getting hammered today.

Got sold off last night. Consolidating some today. I think they will nerf some cards soon.
