Re: AMEX Approval Scores

I have a Wells fargo secured card, HSBC Orchard and HSBC best buy card, Amazon card, Cap 1, according to myfico my Equi is at 630. Don't currently know the other 2. Have high useage and some balances totaling 3000 in all. I just got a mail offer for a green card, went online and apped for the gold card just now. E-mail came in saying I am approved :smileyvery-happy:. Should I close the orchard bank card now? oldest card is my wells fargo secured.

TLDR: Equi @ 630(myfico)

              Don't know other two.

              Approved for Gold Charge Card

FICO score with AMEX is only part of the equation. Its all about how you look on paper to them. They have their own scoring model which takes into account many other things. I got my denial letter in the mail. It points out big eye sores on my report and then tells me I have a 686 EX FICO. Its not 700 but we've seen many people with  lower scores getting approved.

Also to that point. I'm sad to say I'm really disappointed with the customer service by them. The fact that they have absolutely no recon process other than "prove us wrong with documentation" is a bit draconian. Top that off with CSR's reading from scripts just feels off. Maybe when you're "in" you get better service but I definitely didn't feel like they cared to be losing ( or rejecting depending on how you look at it ) a potential customer. I even asked for a supervisor and was promised a call back on Monday that I still haven't received.

Just a bit of a disappointing experience when applying. My apps for Chase Freedom and Discover were actually really pleasant...including a recon with chase. I might have to blacklist AMEX until they beg me to be their customer!

What exactly were the baddies you had that caused the denial? What were their reasons?

Re: AMEX Approval Scores

I got approved for the Amex Plum Card (business charge card) yesterday.

They pulled my Experian FICO which was probably between 705-710. I figure this because my EX FICO from PSECU was 692 on 3/1/12 while my PLUS Score was 673. On 3/8/12 my PLUS Score jumped to 686 so my real FICO had to be roughly that much higher or a little better.

Starting Scores (Sept 2011): All lower-mid 600s. CURRENTLY: TU FICO: 785 (2/7/13), EQ FICO 762 (2/7/13), EX FICO 776 (5/11//13) (PSECU). Goal: Achieved! Now Maintain!
