Hi all,
I just tried the 3x CLI increase this morning and got an automated denial message, something about my risk score being too high.
My credit score from EQ is 702, and my current CL is 1,000. Any idea what this could be about?
Your total debt or utilization may have increased since being approved. Far as I understand Amex's risk score is internal, based upon overall credit profile, and getting a yes or no isn't really dependent upon one's Ex score.
FWIW, I was denied this summer with an 725 Ex FICO. Overall debt had decreased greatly but I foolishly applied before balances had updated. Toyed with the idea of asking for an increase today but didn't pull the trigger.
I see.
Do you know if TU data is used at all? There's a card that only shows up on that report that throws off the util % (it's my dad's, and he spends a lot of money, so his cards have higher limits and more debt).
I believe it's usually EX.
They use EX and TU as a back-up.
We need to know what changed in your file since you app'd.
Did YOUR util go up? Are you only making minimum payments, and not pif'ing?
Util has fluctuated since I got it, but has dropped to the lowest its been in a while (17%).
I'm doing more than minimum payments, but not always PIF'ing.
1k is there usual borderline approval limit, and they are not yet comfortable with you yet, to extend you more.
Try again in 6 months.
Took my DF 3 years before they would increase her Delta Plat from 1k to 3800.

...and by that, I mean she was denied denied denied each time for 3 years, then finally she was just increased from 1k to 3800 a month ago or so now.
I started with 2k, but due to running up cards during a 3-week stay in the UK (one of my dumbest decisions ever), they cut me to 1k back in February.
