AMEX BCE EMV CHIP

I just ordered a Chip & Sig enabled card as I will be doing international travel pretty soon. My only concern was when AMEX say, you cannot opt out of this option and go back to magnetic strip.

Question: the chip & sig cards also have a magnetic strip behind...correct? I can use the card anywhere in US just regular swipe. Then why AMEX gives this warning?

Re: AMEX BCE EMV CHIP

They give this warning, B/C once you receive a card with a EMV chip, one is not allowed to request a card in the future w/o it.......

Re: AMEX BCE EMV CHIP

Your BCE will work the same way as before in the US (magnetic stripe remains)....but other question: Why would you want to use BCE outside the US and pay FTF ?

Lexus Financial: $40,000, CHASE Freedom: $500, Cap One Quicksilver:$2000,Cap One Quicksilver: $2000, AMEX BCE(AU):$3900, AMEX BCE: $1000, AMEX Green NPSL, AMEX PRG NPSL, Discover(AU): $4750, DISCOVER IT: $1500, CITI Platinum Select(AU):$2800, United Mileage Explorer: $2000, Express:$500, Paypal SmartConnect: $2800, Amazon Store: $1700, Macys:$6300, Walmart: $950

above cards are without FTF fees ?

Re: AMEX BCE EMV CHIP

You are right. BCE is not my first preference to use outside US. I changed it just in case i need to use it. Thanks for the information.

Re: AMEX BCE EMV CHIP

Do they send these out by default for new accounts? I don't see why they wouldn't since the US will be using the system in a couple of years.

Re: AMEX BCE EMV CHIP

Just opened a BCE and BCP in December and January. Neither card came with the EMV chip so I guess it is still by request only.

Re: AMEX BCE EMV CHIP

They also don't include the ExpressPay RFID chip by default anymore.  I had my original card until the number was stolen.  My replacement card was thinner and did not have either EMV or RFID.  Thankfully I was able to request a new card with RFID (my local grocery store still uses it).
