I was initially was approved for $3k around 7/11/12, so I just passed the 61 days waiting period. I'm in the Garden, but heard that requesting a CLI from AMEX will only result on soft-pull, so, I went for it and requested 3x my initial credit limit and was approved for $9k. Whoohoo!
Now to keep gardening!
In case anyone else is looking to do this online, here's how I requested the credit limit increase:
Americanexpress.com > Login to account > More Account Options (found at bottom of left sidebar) > Increase Line of Credit (under Account Management section).
Monthly Spend: Must spend >$1,000 in 3 months to get bonus points.
Including Annual Fee ($75) first month spend $274.90, second month spend $791.36, third month currently $325.30.
[edited to include monthly spend in case people don't read the whole thread]

Thanks! I've been working hard to build my credit up over the years and having this site to be a guide in that process is really helpful. It's great to know that after a certain number of days one can request a CLI, and what amount is recommended. It's great.
So, what's the next step after the first 60 day CLI for AMEX? Is it 6 months from date of CLI? And, for what amount, 3x again? This really helps with decreasing my utilization so I don't have to worry about it reporting if I spend $900 on the card in one month (which is not hard to do), before I PIF by the due date.
