AMEX MSD question

Just out of curiousity why is it so important to have a card in your wallet show the original MSD as long as it is reported to the CB with the original MSD.

for me the only one that matters is the MSD on credit report , i could care less what it says on the card.

I honestly didn't care but they offered to send a new one out so I said sure. I was already verifying my MSD was correct so it wasn't like I contacted to get a card with the correct date.
