AMEX Member Since 2007 (AU Account)

As some of you know from the 'Help my DGF find a travel card (please)' thread, my DGF was recently approved for an AMEX Zync (her first AMEX). I was added as an AU. I had an AMEX account in 2007 and I noticed when I logged in it says "THANK YOU FOR BEING A CARDMEMBER SINCE 2007". Will this mean that my TL for this Zync card will backdate to my original AMEX account from 2007?

Any informed input would be greatly appreciated!

Re: AMEX Member Since 2007 (AU Account)

It may show up online but more than likely come with a '12 member date. AFAIK AMEX does not backdate for AU's anymore.

Re: AMEX Member Since 2007 (AU Account)

I thought the new policy of November 2011 was for AU's that were piggybacking on their daddy's 1982 AMEX accounts.

Re: AMEX Member Since 2007 (AU Account)

I would guess if the online system is saying that you have been a member since 2007, that is what will report.  Especially since you are saying you had your own card in 2007.  In any event, you'll know soon enough when this hits your reports.  Please do post an update when that happens.

Re: AMEX Member Since 2007 (AU Account)

Everyone gets confused about Amex backdating, but the system is really quite simple.

Your "member since" date is the date you first had an Amex card, either as the primary cardholder or as an AU, and that's your "member since" date for life.  It doesn't matter that your dad has been a cardmember since '79; if you become an AU on his card in 2008, and that's your first amex card, your member since date will be 2008.  That member since date will be the same for all subsequent cards you get, as either an AU or a primary cardholder.  If you get your own card in 2009, that will be backdated to 2008.  If you get added as an AU on your mom's card in 2010, that will get backdated to 2008.

Starting Score: 617 (EQ 6/10/2012)
Current Score: 694 (EQ 02/24/2013) 704 (EX 02/20/2013 lender pull)
Goal Score: 700

Discover it $4,500 (02/2001); Amex PRG (Backdated to 01/2006); Amex ZYNC (Backdated to 07/2006); Wells Fargo Cash Back Visa $5,500 (12/2011); Citi Diamond Preferred MC $1,000 (07/2012); B of A Cash Rewards Visa Signature $5,000 (02/2013)

I thought we had a post a month or so ago that an AU account couldn't backdate prior to the opening of the underlying tradeline even the person being added as an AU was a cardmember previously?  The rest of your post is accurate AFAIK regarding Amex's backdating policy as it currently stands.

I don't know if it'll report as '07 in your case jlu; would you mind letting us know one way or the other when you next check your credit reports post-AU addition?
