Re: AMEX just blew my mind!

One of the better known pros of Amex.  While I'm sure all Issuers *may* resolve these kinds of disputes efficiently, based on my experiences and that of others, I just have more confidence using an Amex when making large purchases.

*Edited* PS - Amex is better, even if only because they don't have to deal with Visa/MC/Discover or any other 3rd party.  Also, their Merchant agreements are the most single sided in the history of Merchant Agreements in favor of the them, and therefore the cardmember.

Re: AMEX just blew my mind!

I think the reason why its so quick with amex is that they do it in house, I believe every other CC issuer goes thru an third party. This also includes extended warranty on products as well i believe.

Hm..does Discover go to 3rd party for disputes?

Also, that's pretty cool that all of AMEX's services are in house.

Discover is also a closed-loop system network, but they don't "appear" to have nearly the bias towards the cardmember as Amex.

Whatever Discover has, it sucks! I ordered some food that was canceled, and I've been waiting about 6wks for the refund. I mean seriously, how long does it take to confirm that an order was canceled?

Am I right!!!! Cannot agree more! LOL!....same for me, took around 8 weeks just to get a refund from their dispute process....

All I know is that I'm using AMEX for big purchases. This trumps the cashback from Disc. for me.

That's so true! Definitely has me eyeing an Amex CC now.

When travelling, I just don't have the time or inclination to stay on top of charges as I normally do.  In addition, there are so many other things to keep track of, especially when travelling abroad, than to organize, track, and sort charges/receipts.

Strange things can happen to CCs in foreign countries!  In case this were to happen, I just feel better with Amex, since it boils down to, "this is not a valid charge, please refund it."  Normally, it's really as simple as that with Amex.  Unlike with Visa/MC/Disc, no need to even contact the Merchant, who doesn't even have the "right" to present their side, unless specifically requested by Amex.

I don't leave home without it.
