Hello,

my Wells Fargo card reports every month around the 17 to the Credit bureaus

if I apply on 19th of December will I still make it as a 2012 member?

I think you would be cutting it too close.  Dec 24th is a Monday this year and the 19th is the Wednesday before.  There are not many business days between the 19th and the end of the month when you factor in holidays.  The 31st is also a Monday so that leaves you with only 5 business days (not counting the 19th).

How many business days do you need?

why doesn't the approval date counts as the year?

is it when I activate my card or when they print the card?

I couldn't tell you, but anecdotally it does not.  If I had to guess it's probably when either the account is established, or the actual card is created which may be the deciding factor anyway; however, I'm pretty certain it's not when you activate (though that counts the CLI clock on a revolver).  It's tough to know with a lender's systems in what order they do things explicitly; however, we had people last year wait until the last week or so of December and get '12 as their member date instead of  '11.  I don't recall the full details but I think there was mixed success for their getting that changed.

Also is that the date the bureaus update, or the date your statement closes?  Could be another day or two swing in there.  One thing I would suggest, is when I got my Zync I had the option of getting the number right then and there so I could use it online... all I can say is DO IT, and make any stupid online charge (a cookbook from Amazon directly or whatever) from an easily recognizable merchant ASAP.    I think this can only help for trying to hit your '12 deadline if you need to cut it close.

Must agree with Duncan, here.  Why do you need the WF card to report before you apply?  High utilization on your last report?

I think if I remember the OP's other posts, his history is either going to be 5 or six months reported by the time he applies for this; and if it's that second case, 6 is way better than 5, and I suspect 4 is worse than 5 too from an underwriting perspective.

Re: AMEX latest day to apply to get 2012 member date

When I applied for the Zync i had to call in for the address verification they often do. The rep was super-polite and accommodating in every way. I would highly recommend calling them whether you are instantly approved, get the 7-10days message, or whatever. And on the call, specifically say you were wondering if your member since date could reflect 2012. It'll be less of a crapshoot if you can get a human being on your side.

Otherwise, I do think you would be cutting it close. If I recall correctly, my card was postmarked about 7 days after my application to them, but around the holidays that timeframe would be likely to lengthen.

Still, it was kind of funny to me at the time because I got my original Zync card, called them and had them backdate me to my prior AmEx card, then requested a new card and received that, all after I had requested the Cash Rewards product change from BoA but before I received the new BoA card.  Compared to AmEx, BoA is glacial.

Re: AMEX latest day to apply to get 2012 member date

I'm going to have 6 months in November 17, but I was wondering if increasing my limit

with Wells Fargo would get me more chances to get approved for a charge card with AMEX

should I apply in November or December ?

Re: AMEX latest day to apply to get 2012 member date

If it's any indication, I remember I applied for my Gold card on April 30, 2010 and it reports as being opened in April, 2010 on my credit reports despite that I was approved on the last day of April.  I'm not sure if that's relevant or not though.
