AMEX platinum card fee waived?

I can upgrade my gold card to the platinum but I want to continue my first year of no annual fee. Has anyone got the fee waived for the first year?

From what I've read, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but even though the website says that you can upgrade, it will fail later in the process if you haven't had the account for 13 months.

First year free AND all AUs free!

For the first year only. $175 for up to 3 AUs ($175ea after 3) per year 2nd year and beyond. Great if you're an Ameriprise CMA holder I suppose.

Climbing to 700 and beyond. It's too cold for gardening.
