AMEX soft pull application?

Hello everyone, first of all, happy new year!

I'm pretty sure when you're holding an AMEX card (as primary account holder) and then app for another card of theirs, it will be a SP on the credit report if it's denied (someone please verify that?)

Now, I'm just curious for my niece, what if, say someone is currently an authorised user on a card, then app for a card. Would it be a SP when denied, or would it be a HP?

For AMEX cardholders, it is a soft pull if it is a denial and a hard pull if the card is approved. 

For authorized users, it is a hard pull either way. Only primary cardholders get the benefit listed above.
