AMEX to come out with a Zync alternative?

Do you guys think AMEX will ever come out with something like the zync? A charge card but without the hefty annual fee?

I dont think so. i heard that the zync was a very expensive mistake on amex part and hence was shut down. Every day card is definitely better than zync. With the every day card now there is not a single reason to pay for any thing else other than Plat in their charge card line up.

Re: AMEX to come out with a Zync alternative?

I think that from a business point of view the zync (or any low annual fee non revolving charge card) is not a winning idea for a bank. Amex attracted more risky customers and earned less swipe fees since the target demographic of a zync card holder had a much lower annual income. Additionally they didn’t earn any interest since this was a charge product and not a revolving line of credit. I would also imagine that they lost some green and gold card holders who switched to the lower annual fee zync. It is this same reason that I fear the everyday / everyday preferred may be short lived. I hope amex is able to attract customers who inefficiently redeem member reward points so this card stays around.

As a consumer I would love a low / no fee charge card that offered the amex style purchase protection but I wouldn’t expect to see the zync come back. Just my $.02
