I have heard more than once that for some reason AMEX has more weight as a CC when determining your credit score. Is there any truth to this? has anyone else heard anything about this?
I know that 'major' cc count for more than say a store card from Macys - or is that correct as well? I know it does for Experian (have a credit watch account with them and they say so). Is this also true with FICO?
Amex has as much weight as first premier/cap one/orchard. They dont go by 'brands'.
A lender might view your FP card differently than the AMEX, but as far as scores are concerned, they are the same.

ok, then it is fair to say that major cc all get same weight regardless of lender however do the major cc have more weight than store cards?? again the reason I bring this up is because with my EX account and a few other credit websites mention this as the case.
what do you mean by "FP" card? still don't have all the initials and translations down
For FICO score purposes: AMEX = First Premier (FP)
For lender viewing purposes and personal judgment: AMEX > FP

ok think I understand... FP is still a major cc though correct? makes sense about score being same but possibly not lender.
Still doesn't answer about store cards like Macys where you can really only use at Macys (for example).
FICO score purposes AMEX = Macys card??
and of course lenders will view AMEX > Macys card
If we are talking about a Amex Charge card, I think the impact it has on FICO is different than credit cards with limits. First, your statement balance will NOT count toward revolving utilization so there is one difference. Second, while I cannot be completely sure, having a charge card in addition to credit cards may have an impact on the "Mix of credit" front.

FICO doesn't count it differently but CCC internal scoring can take nearly anything they want into their calculations, home ownership, which cards you have, how much you pay per month, do you have bank cards, how much do you say you have in savings. which cards you have closed vs which you have openned and then they can pull in any passed SP or historical SP they have accumulted.
If you have a Macy's card, it may not show up as Macy's. It probably shows up as whoever services it. I think GE services Macy's.
I know when I had my banana republic card, it showed up as GEMB on my credit report
