I got married last year and went for the Southwest Companion Pass, by applying for the Southwest Premier (50k pts), Southwest Plus (50k pts), then spent another $6k to reach 110k points. Until end of this year the wife travels with me for free whenever I fly Southwest, even if I pay with points. (I closed one of the accounts immediately after earning the bonus during the first month and the reward posted to my SWA account, and avoided the annual fee.) If you do this, be sure to put the same SWA account number on both credit card apps so rewards post to the same account.
