I received a letter roughly 7 days after apping. It was the security dept. of Chase requesting I call for verification.

NASA takes awhile.
They may take a while, but when you later apply for the credit card, they use the SP from back when you applied for membership. Assuming you aply for the cadrd relatively soon, like 1-2 months. So its not as if you have to put everything on hold waiting for NASA to finalize your membership.
Are you sure that second application (freedom) was accepted? I seem to vauely recall that error meant that it detected a second app and rejected it, but i'm not sure.

Just an update from the last of the spree:
Just called app status line for CSP today 1/7/16 (app'ed 12/30/15) after i had the 7-10 day wait message
Approved for CSP with 16K SL!
