Account inactivity and CC closure

How long can you leave a CC inactive (don't charge anything on it at all) before the creditor closes your account? Is it in the range of months, years?

I'm curious b/c I'm using only 2 of my cards right now for the promotional bonus but I don't want any AA on my other accounts. Should I just go ahead and buy a slurpee with them so I don't have to worry?

Thanks!

Re: Account inactivity and CC closure

It really varies by creditor.   As a general rule, I try not to leave cards inactive for more than 3 months.....

Specifically, I'm talking about Chase, Citi, and Amex. Is it 3 months for them?
