Adding Authorized User

I am getting married in October of 2017 and I was wondering if adding my fiance as an authorized user on my cards and visa versa once we get married is something people do? Is it a good idea? what are the pro's and con's of doing so?

Re: Adding Authorized User

In my experience:

Pro- it could help your credit profile

Con- if the person defaults/maxes out etc it also affects your credit profile

There's nothing wrong with it. I was on my ex husbands cards and vice versa. When we got divorced I got off of his ASAP and filed a dispute with the credit agencies. They were thankfully taken off my record and my credit improved majorly.

Re: Adding Authorized User

Is it something people do, yes. Is it something you must do, no. Similar to how some get joint checking accounts and others keep them separate.

Pro: credit is "inherited" as an authorized user
Con: same as the Pro..

Just keep in mind the impact of bad credit decisions with an authorized user and you should be fine.
