Adding an Authorized User with Bad Credit History to Credit Card

Hello,

I currently live with my parents who had to recently file for bankruptcy. To help them out I added them as authorized users to my Capital One GM Card credit card, a SSN number was not given.

My question is is there any way their negative credit ratings will bring me down? As far as present and future charges I am not concerned, they give me the cash and I always pay the bills in full. What I am worried about is having their negative credit somehow affect me.

Thanks for the insight.

Matt.

It shouldn't. Being an AU doesn't work as a two way street where the primary card holder inherits the AU's negative credit history.

Nope.  In fact, if you had bad history, you can't affect them.

The only thing that will affect both of you will be the history of the card you add to both credit files.   Nothing else with your separate histories with affect the other.
