Adding son to credit card

If I add my son to my credit card will any past negatives under his name effect my credit?  He had a lost movie and they sent him to a collection agency when he swears he returned it.  To stop the collection calls he paid the movie.  Now he wants to get credit established by adding his name to my card.  Will the collections event under his name effect me?

i don't believe they will...anything on that account that you do will impact his score though. make sure you keep the balance atleast 50% below the credit limit or you'll hurt his score even more.

Adding him as an authorized user (AU) will not cause his past issues to start showing up on your reports.

 

Your good credit will show up on his reports, for that cc only.
