Does it hurt to have list an additional signer during the app process if they have a few baddies?

Yes it can, unless your credit is worse than your co-signer's.

No if it's just AU their credit won't be looked at.

How recent are those late payments?

It doesn't matter if the cards are closed, but were they in good standing when they were closed? Or was he/she delinquent on those debt?

How does your co-signer's credit fare compared to yours?
