FWIW. I have recently closed 4 accounts, combined CL was $14600 and opened 6 accounts, total CL $91000.

Nothing wrong with closing accounts in any credit environment.

AF is very good reason to close account.

Just curious - what is your AAoA now?

You can turn over those accounts when you are "young" without hurting too much. I need to keep my AAoA above 4 and will be very happy when it is above 5.

Re: Advice on closing a credit card

It all depends on your philosophy, needs and situation.

I would close account with AF(Cap 1)  regardless what FICO God thinks about it.

If lender wants AF, lender should offer good perks to justify AF.

I called the backdoor number (9339), and they waived the annual fee for me.  No credit limit increase, but at least they waived the AF.  Thank you for the advice.  I'm happy to still have this card active.
