I got denied for the Amex PRG and they offered me a prepaid amex card, so I'm thinking they are denying me for lack of open revolver accounts but I will see when I get the letter.
I called and ended up in a call center with a woman I could barely understand. Exp score was 699. Then they gave a whole bunch of reasons about too many accounts that had been delinquent in the past although nothing has been delinquent since 2009, and high amounts on student loans. Then she gave around 4 reasons that were all the same thing that I did not have enough revolvers, which I think is likely the main issue and the other stuff they just threw in on top of it. They also said my score was too low, which will go up once the inqs drop off. Oh and they had a problem with me having two inquiries recently. Basically every reason they could think of.

I don't really recall what order she mentioned them in, so I will have to check the letter when it comes but I think it was the too few accounts that was mentioned first. Hopefully this is the case, With large student loan balances paying them off at an even more accelerated rate (granted I do pay more than I need to each month to the loan companies) than I do now is just not feasabile and the 2009 delinquency will be there for another 3 years or so. If they have an issue with that then I guess I will not be using Amex and another company will have my business.
Its a 120 day. Basically some loans entered repayment and I wasn't aware of it for the first few months and then I went back and caught up.

Jumped the fence I see and the reason your thinking for the denial is correct ...Sorry
Amex and Chase like to see a year of CC history YMMV some have had less but in your case cards not even reporting but they saw recent HP's looked desperate for credit IMHO...Hang in there hit the garden for at least 9 months and try again
Let us know what letter says (update)
I think I will try for the CSP again in Jan. Hopefully after 6-7 months with the Freedom they will reconsider and I will try for a CLI on the venture in 3 months. Don't know if I will bother applying for an Amex charge card again. I may just wait a year and apply straight for a revolver as that is what I am really interested in anyway.
