Re: Advice, what should I do?

Enharu- Ahh okay, I thought they were not able to check that, but now they do. I always pay to a 0 balance so I pretty much have no debt for most of the time. Ahh I see, I PIF because it is easier to pay back what I can charge over the course of a month, and I can see why some get denied for Amex and Chase, thanfully my balances are low for the most part so it works out in the end. The only time I ever leave a balance is when I'm apping for any cards, other then that, it is PIF every month, or some months I spent a little bit too much.

As for the SPG, do I have any chance of approval or will it be very unlikely that I will be approved. The reason being is I am taking a trip with my family this summer and we will be staying in a sheraton so I thought it would come in handy (many of the times, my mom or dad will charge on my cards on occasion for some stuff when they have too much of a balance and then pay me back later and that is how I pay some of my larger balances, but most of the time, mine aree really low.) But if I have no chance I'd rather not waste an app and apply.

And If I do get approved for a Chase card, I will use it whenever I can as much as I can.

I do fly, but it is about 3-4 times a year. Does the Citi Thank you Premium have an AF? And yes, the Cash+ is the one I want to get and I'm not going to even bother to apply for it now since I know it would be very unlikely to be approved, myabe in a few years I will try for it if is still around.

So what is my strategy looking like, and how should I plan my apps based on the information and the credit profile I have provided? I just want the best course of action and keep my credit as good and clean as possible.

Hi Guys,

As you guys have known for the last few months my credit goals have included getting the Chase Freedom and the Amex BCE and some other cards. My question is, should I apply now, or should I resist my temptation and wait it until June, or just go ahead and apply in the upcoming month.

These are the cards I want to try for but I don't know if I would get approved 1. American Express Blue Cash Everyday,  2. Chase Freedom, 3. Chevron Gas card  4. Southwest card (I have heard of people getting approved for lower limits like 2-3k here on the forums but I doubt I would get approved for it. )

5. I am planning to open an IRA soon, and maybe with either Fidelity or T.Rowe Price, If I open with Fidelity, could I possibly go for their card?

6. If I do not get approved for the BCE, I plan to apply for the Delta Gold since I have heard it is the easiest of revolvers to be approved for. The question is, do I qualify for any of the cards I mentioned or at least have a chance at going for them?

I have a total of 3 inquires on EX (Amex, Chase, Citi) 2 on EQ (Amex and AT&T) and 2 on TU (Amex and Discover) and yes Amex did triple pull me.

My EQ as of today is: 723 and my TU scores as of today is: 724. I'm not sure of my Average Age of my accounts, but my BOFA card is my oldest card at 11 months (will be a year on the 25th of next month). I also have no baddies, no PR's, everything's clean. I did try for the Chase Freedom back in November but they told me I did not have accounts open long enough to establish a credit history and I was denied. My Citi and Discover cards were opened in October of last year, while my PRG was opened last November. Credit Seasme also has me at 715. (Fako).

I am a student with about 12,000 income and I have a total of 4 cards all listed in my signature. I want to go for a travel card or a different type of card, but I think It would be doubtful that I would be approved due to my income. I still live at home and all that, but I pay for my tuition, books, gas, phone, and other things that I can pay for, but I am just trying to gauage my chances and see where I would stand. I am also planning to close my PRG before the annual fee hits in November (basically I applied for it becuase I wanted to get my foot in the door with them.)

So that leaves me the key question, what should I do? Should I apply, wait, or just take my chances and see what happens?

Thank you again,

-Snowman

I'm not sure if you are aware but you can quote someone here w/o having to write longwinded replies for multiple people.

In the top right of the reply box there is a "Quote" button you can hit when you hit reply on a post you want to reply to.

Hope that helps you!

Re: Advice, what should I do?

The thank you premium has an AF, and is especially good for long-haul travelers.

For example, a roundtrip flight from LAX to NYC is almost 5000 miles. that is $50 worth in cashback, and 50 x 1.33 = 66.5 dollars if for travel if redemned via citi

A roundtrip flight from LAX to Korea is almost 12,000 miles. That is about $120 in cashback, or almost 160 for travel redemned via citi.

It's a really good deal. Economy seats from LAX to NYC are about $350 if you buy it in advance, and there don't seem to be an airline restriction. So that's a good 14% rewards assuming you cash it out and forfeit the 33% bonus. I am not sure however, if flight tickets bought for other individuals qualify for these points as well or if there's any other restrictions such as caps.

For your strategy, I would recommend you apply Amex first in the meantime. After you get approved, then worry bout the next step Smiley Tongue

Re: Advice, what should I do?

LS- Yeah I'll use it, I'm just too lazy to use the Quote button..lol Smiley Tongue

Enharu- That does sound like a good deal! I'll look into it when I start apping, do you think they would approve me though with the stats I have? So when should I apply for Amex? at the end of this month (towards the 25th, and leave a small balance or not?)? Should I go for the BCE and Delta Gold, and maybe try for the SPG too? are my scores good enough to be approved for any of the three. Like I said, I mainly want the BCE, but if it helps getting another Amex card or two I'm all for it, I am considering going up to a max of 5 inquires on each bureau. And yes, I shall see what happens If I am approved Smiley Happy

Re: Advice, what should I do?

Thank you WarJar and bluesnowman for your kind thoughts. It was definitely The Lord that got me through those times. Bluesnowman, I'm sorry to hear about your grandpa's passing. Death is so hard but through Him we know we will see them again! It is that hope that keeps me moving forward. Smiley Wink

I hope you are able to find the right Amex card for you. I have never had an Amex but would like the BCE, when I get to their level...hopefully early next year but it may not be until July 2014...that's when a couple of inquiries will fall off. Smiley Happy
