Age to be an AU?

How old does someone have to be to be an AU? If I give my kid a credit card, how old do they have to be to have it and legally use it, and when can we start building their credit? Thanks!!

I don't know what they look for but I was able to add my 16 year old sister as an AU on my BOA Visa so she can use it in case of an emergency.

i have added my 12 year old sister and she has used the card no problem. I think Amex is 15 but most my other issuers just ask for name so age doesn't matter. It would be good if they had some kind of id tho(i know not supposed to ask but maybe more likely if its a young kid)
