I bet they were only told that it is 90 days from denial, they don't know that for a denial you need to be entitled to request, so every request before the 90 days (from denial) and 180 days (from approval) are not considered denials because we are not entitled a request until that time.


Correct. If denial is based upon submitting request too soon this does NOT reset clock. As Irish said, prolly best to check boards first given that as a general rule most CSRs are unreliable on matters of policy.

In my experience, in most of the cases, AMEX chat reps, especially the ones handling the blue cash line of products, are very ill-trained and have no understanding of their company's policies whatsoever.

 

So far, I've been told at least 3 incorrect things:

 

(1) Whole Foods is not a grocery store. Yeah, but your company actually lists it as a grocery store on your webpage. Cut the crap on merchant codes.

(2) Reward points (dollars) shown on the statement take 2 business cycles to update online. Well, 2-3 days maybe, not 2 business cycles.

(3) You need to wait 180 more days after your last try because you tried 2 days too early. So try in October. Well, I tried after 2 days and got the increase.

 

 

Oh and during my last chat to find out about upgrade opportunities, the rep was far more busy trying to get me to upgrade from BCE to BCP than answering my question. Every chat message ended with, "So, can I go ahead and upgrade the card?" Sure, I wanted to (and eventually did) upgrade, but just hear my questions out first !

 

I just don't get how AMEX ranks so high on CS. What kind of CS are people even talking about here?

Out of the few cards I have, Discover is definitely the best CS I have had.

Assuming this was a new card and the OP doesn't have any other Amex cards that have received a CLI in the last six months, how can a request be "too soon", when there is no longer any such thing as "too soon"? In that scenario, it would be a 90 day wait.

It is kind of a new card. I requested the 3x CLI upon activation and was denied. But I wasn't completely sure of the date to count the 90 days out so yesterday's request was too early.
