AmEx chat rep says early CLI requests resets clock

I requested a CLI for my BCE today, knowing I might be a little early, but I couldn't remember the exact date. Request was declined. The chat rep says that now I have to wait another 90 days from today, because I reset the clock when I requested. I have read here several times that it does not reset the clock if you request too early. Is the chat rep incorrect?

No it does not, many members on here have tried early and got a notice that it was too soon. They then went to request it when the time was up and was approved. Unless you were declined for the CLI then you would have to wait 90 days again.

Well he did say that the request was declined, and that I had requested too early. So, I will try to figure out the 90 days from the first one and try after that. If it doesn't work I will try 90 days from today, I guess. lol

If approved you have to wait 180 days.

If declined it is 90 days...so OP will probably need to wait 90 days

For about the 100th time, you're far better to ask questions about Amex policies here then to an Amex CSR.  A significant portion of them are completely clueless about Amex policies.

The clock does not reset.

Re: AmEx chat rep says early CLI requests resets clock

As 1 week ago this isn't true, my DW tried a CLI early got denied, tried again at 92 days from first denial and got approved for 3X.

I bet they were only told that it is 90 days from denial, they don't know that for a denial you need to be entitled to request, so every request before the 90 days (from denial) and 180 days (from approval) are not considered denials because we are not entitled a request until that time.

If the CCC ever decide to mass hire a lot of well educated credit specialists, I think we could all have jobs! I knew that I would get better info here than on chat. Smiley Very Happy

Right, but probably not for UW positions as we are a little lax!    "I see you had a BK, but hey, that was almost a week ago, so I think we can start you on $15K, and you can ask for a CLI tomorrow."

You want a 100k soft pull CLI? Sure, why not?! Be sure to ask for another in 17 days!
