American Express - Can't Provide Pre-Selected Card Offers

Hi all,

Anyone had this happen to them? I was curious and went to the AMEX pre-selection tool for fun, to see if I would possibly qualify for anything. I got the mesage that they couldn't provide any offers, but then goes on to recommend the three cards at the bottom. Weird? Certainly.

Has this happened to anyone else? Should I try again next week to see? I will likely not apply for awhile, but was curious as I wait for some GW letters to come back.

You could be opted out don't meet their criteria or you have a dirty report.

Before I saw pre-approvals, I used to see the same thing. IMO, wait until you see some preapprovals.

Thanks for the input all! Looks like I'll be waiting awhile. Oh well, gives me time to write more GW letters. Smiley Happy

Re: American Express - Can't Provide Pre-Selected Card Offers

Amex is crap any way. They are so funny about who they want to approve and what they look for. I have 700+ scores credit cards with 5k limits, 10% util no baddies and they told me I didn't qualify and that they use there own credit model.. So many places don't take them anyway due to there high fees so it's there lost and not mines..

Re: American Express - Can't Provide Pre-Selected Card Offers

Thanks lhova2000, point well taken. If I didn't spend much at Costco, I'd probably not even be considering it. But between gas and Costco, travel, I calculated quite a bit of cash back. I'd PIF, so I'd likely reap some benefit from it.

Re: American Express - Can't Provide Pre-Selected Card Offers

I've been getting that exact same message for the past two years and they've never once pulled a soft on my CR.  I know for a fact that my reports are clean so I'm not sure why I'm still getting that message.  Yes, I'm opted in for pre-screened offers too.  I just recently signed up for e-mail offers from AmEx and have been receiving e-mails, but I still get this message when checking for offers on their website.

Hrmmm...

Seems like many have had the same experience so I'm glad I'm not the only one. I'll plan to wait till I get my scores above 700 and I get rid of some baddies. Smiley Happy Thanks again all!
