@Ron1 wrote:Sorry about closing the account. American Express doesn't want you to charge a lot on the first month. I don't know if $800 is a lot for them. I also don't know the exposure limit of your card. Even though The Platinum Card doesn't have a fixed limit, it doesn't mean you have unlimited spending. (They mentioned this on their website). The exposure limit can go up and down depends on your income, payment history and credit history. (They credit review you by soft pull from EXP). You have several rather large (over 200.00) purchases. Hmm... it seems that they didn't like the amount of large purchases. But, American Express is strange, you'd never know.
Ron.

Not directed at you Ron…I think you're right your post just triggered something.
These are the types of things I was ranting about in another thread where CCC extend credit and then punish you for using it. Maybe CCC should send all their cards with personalized dos and don'ts so someone doesn't make the mistake of actually using their card

Without the annual fee added in, the total here is $1294.33. Add in the AF, then it's $1744.33, which is just a wee bit higher than $800...making me think that my wife did the math for your estimate of shopping charges! LOL

Yes, and trying to use it for a car rental usually puts a $300-$500 hold against the card, so now he is hitting $2,000 which may have triggered something in their system. But I'd want to know why the card was cancelled automatically rather than just put on hold until the outstanding balance was paid.
I would like to also know the answer!! When you call them update this thread please.
My experience with Amex has been good so far, when i received my Amex Gold card a few months ago i put $2500 in charges on it within the first 2 weeks of activatig it, never had any issues with it. Also i just put 1000 in charges on it last week while on vacation, no issues. Well there was 2 issues 2 restaurants i went to didnt accept AmEx!!!

Yes, but usually this triggers a temporary suspend on account, with request for payment mid-cycle because the "current balance is at a level that requires a payment prior to any new charges being authorized."
Generally unless there is a problem on the account, such as failure to pay, lates or other failures on cardholder, I would expect a suspend prior cancellation.
But who knows.....
Sorry to revive this thread, but watchman, did you ever find out why your card was cancelled?

Watchman was not the OP, and OP last logged on nearly two years ago so doubtful we'll get an update.
Seems as though he may have had issues with other cards he had and maybe they soft pulled and found them....
I have their lowest level Zync Card, and a decent but not perfect credit rating and have been been good for my first month, charging in the thousands range for tuition and what not this month and haven't had any declines, or phone calls.
Too bad we'll never know for sure...oh well.
So, reviving the thread yet again. No update huh? lol
