Thanks for everyone's help on this board. I decided to stop being a chicken and see if I was on the black list. To my suprise I was approved for the Zync. I really wanted the AmEx PR Gold so I went ahead and applied. It said that the site was having technical difficulties but when I checked the application status it said approved as well. Now let's see if it will be backdated to 1993. How cool would that be? Now off to the garden!

Wow, congrats !  That's fantastic !  Smiley Happy   When you setup your online profile if it says member since 1993 then your cards should be backdated on your CRs.

I just logged in and it says member since 2012. I am not going to wake the beast although 1993 would have been awesome. I'm just glad that AmEx has given me another chance.

Thanks Ron. I'm assuming I'm on their blacklist but I haven't confirmed. The Zync Card looks great.

Amex is really funny. I had an unpaid CO with them from 1991. I started checking my credit in 2010 and saw that they were softing me. Then early last year I received a gently worded collection letter from them. As the account was well past the SOL, and I was currently paying off other debts, I didn't respond to it. A few months later, I received an offer to apply for their Green card! I was certain that I was blacklisted, but due to the advice of some of the members on this forum I decided to give it a try. To my utter astonishment, I was approved! Smiley Surprised I've been treating the card very well and, while the past is the past, I intend to be a good customer for them going forward.

So, the bottom line is that their softing you could mean anything. You'll just have to wait and see if something comes from it.

Please forgive my ignorance. I've never heard of what you describe, and didn't know it was possible to get an AMEX card of any kind under those conditions. Please indulge my stupidity on this subject. Do you think AMEX would ever try to backdate the CO to your new account? You indicate the unpaid CO is past the SOL, so I would think not. I read AMEX backdates to original membership, so surely they have all/most information of past accounts. Again very sorry for my ignorance, and many thanks for your reply.

Oh dang!

If you have your old account number, you could call new accounts (or another dept.?) and get that updated.

Re: American Express - Soft Pulling Me

I keep everything. I have the old card. I just need to get up the nerve to call Amex. I wanted to wait a couple of billing cycles.
