Hoping to get some insight from the group. I had an AmEx Green Card that was an unpaid charge-off from 2002. I pulled my Experian report back in March and noticed that even though the account is no longer listed AmEx continues to soft pull my report. There are about 7 pulls since March 2010. Does anyone know what this is about? Thanks in advance.

Thanks Ron. I'm assuming I'm on their blacklist but I haven't confirmed. The Zync Card looks great.

Amex is really funny. I had an unpaid CO with them from 1991. I started checking my credit in 2010 and saw that they were softing me. Then early last year I received a gently worded collection letter from them. As the account was well past the SOL, and I was currently paying off other debts, I didn't respond to it. A few months later, I received an offer to apply for their Green card! I was certain that I was blacklisted, but due to the advice of some of the members on this forum I decided to give it a try. To my utter astonishment, I was approved!
I've been treating the card very well and, while the past is the past, I intend to be a good customer for them going forward.
So, the bottom line is that their softing you could mean anything. You'll just have to wait and see if something comes from it.

If you are blacklisted then I believe that if you app it won't even result in a credit pull ~ they check their "naughty" list first, and if you are on it then it declines the app right then.

That's what I was told by forum members, which is why I decided to pull the trigger. I figured that if I was declined due to being blacklisted, then at least I would know and I wouldn't have to take a HP; if I was approved, then I'd gladly take the HP. I think it's good that they do it that way, so that you don't waste an inq if you're blacklisted.

As stated above, they approved me! And, they backdated my new account all the way to my original member date of 1987!!! It was a shock, I admit. I'm assuming that because 20 years had passed, and they saw that my recent credit was steadily improving, I was worth taking a chance on. I've been making certain that they have no reason to regret the decision. I'm back in good standing with Amex and have been using my Green as my primary card.

20 years may just be the magic number.

Thanks for everyone's help on this board. I decided to stop being a chicken and see if I was on the black list. To my suprise I was approved for the Zync. I really wanted the AmEx PR Gold so I went ahead and applied. It said that the site was having technical difficulties but when I checked the application status it said approved as well. Now let's see if it will be backdated to 1993. How cool would that be? Now off to the garden!
