American Express added me, please note below

American express added me on my wife's account as an authorized user and that account manager which gives me the right to make any changes.

However, they asked for my SSN which is odd cause no one else ever did unless its a joint account.

In terms of credit report, would the balance on my wife's account be calculated in total utilization ration or not

And do they even offer joint accounts

thanks alot

Re: American Express added me, please note below

Amex does ask for SSN's -

They will report the exact same account(s) on your report as her and the UTL will be calulated in yours (good or bad)

You are an AU (Authorized User) - Amex does not have joint accounts.

Re: American Express added me, please note below

Timothy - thanks for the reply

Well, if the utilization counts for me as well, then Am I getting any benefits for the new credit line available, i mean i though that AU does not affect your FICO, but if utilization is being considered then i am being effected

dont get me wrong, its my wife's and I account anyway - and I am the one that pays the bill Smiley Happy

I just want to get a better over all understanding

You get all the good and bad just like it was your account.

Timothy - thank you for taking the time to reply

I did wonder why they ask for the SSN number unlike any other visa or mastercard creditor

AU title was misleading with them, since I know that it does not affect me being an AU on like a chase credit card

good and bad, i think i can take both Smiley Happy

Re: American Express added me, please note below

Any card you are AU on will count in your score as if it was your account, util and all.

Re: American Express added me, please note below

Doesn't Amex reserve the right to go after the AU for charges made with the AU card?

Re: American Express added me, please note below

I thought any creditor can go after you, if the owner does not pay the card.

By the way, how does a credit report an AU report on your credit report if they don't have your SSN?

Also, does anyone know whether you can have more than 1 AU?

Thanks!

Yes - I had DW and DD on two cards as AUs
The slide from grace is really more like gliding
And I've found the trick is not to stop the sliding
But to find a graceful way of staying slid

Thanks for the response. I'm just clueless about AUs.

Now let's say I've had a credit card for 3 years and I add my sister as an AU. Would 3 years of history show on the account?
