American Express

I am a current Amex customer I would like to get the hilton rewards (which I feel has the best rewards). However, I do not want another Hard pull on my credit report. Is there any technique or way that you guys know to get around this. I know Amex makes soft pulls every few weeks.. Any help is appreciated thanks

Re: American Express

If you apply for a new amex card and are accepted it will be a hard pull. If you are denied it will just be a soft pull. ymmv

+1 No way around a HP if you're approved for a new card. You can try asking for a product change but I doubt they will let you convert to a co-branded card from Blue.

I had a HHonors card with Amex and was able to convert it to BCE.  Not sure if you can go the other way.  Doesn't hurt to ask.  Just send them a message in the secure message center about it.  They should tell you what options are available for you to change your card into.

A few months ago I tried converting from SPG to HHonors, no go. They let me PC to any of the Blues and I chose Blue Sky. I asked if it was possible to PC from Blues to HHonors and they said no at the time. If you find out differently please let us know!

Re: American Express

Yep you were right they will not transfer it.  Now my next question is the pre approval status does that mean no hard pull??? And I talked to amex and they said its not a pre approval its pre selected. However, It clearly says pre approval? any help on this

Re: American Express

Those preapprovals and preselected only mean that you fit the credit profile that they got from a database. They do not mean that they will approve you for the card, but you may have a good shot at it. You will have to apply thoughand you will get a hard pull, no way around it.
