Hell, I'll gladly have my CLI declined to learn that I have a 712 FICO WITH my repo reporting!!
Anyway, the reasons for denying my 3x:
Accounts not paid as agreed - 6 year old repo
AAoA - 3.7 years
Amount owed on deliquent accounts - my repo
Too many INQ - 3
Interesting ....did Amex not approve you for several cards with same reasons ?

Nope - haven't been denied any cards from them yet.
But as I just posted one up from here, the report they used was from dec 14th.

Sorry about the denial...but since when are 3 inquiries too many? Sometimes I think lenders just add that in to "fatten" the denial reasons.
Don't just assume that there's a hard line for X inquiries for everyone. "Too many" can vary based on one's credit. A weaker credit profile is more likely to run into the "too many" reason. A stronger credit profile could run into the double digits for inquiries.

Then the verbiage should be similar to, "Based on your current credit profile, your number of inquiries are excessive." The current wording implies a set number.
