Alright, so I called in today and was able to get my Limit of 3,200!

Thats not bad, its the lowest of my three limits, but with AmEx CLIs it shouldn't stay that way for too long, right?

I got an initial CLI of $4000. I have read in previous post by RockinRay that one can request a CLI 61 days from activation for a 3X. They can either give you the full 3X or counter with something or flat out deny you. CLIs from Amex are soft pulls.

My income is only around 8,000, and its mostly from gifts that I get throughout the year (and working around the house and small contracting jobs on the internet..)  I already had a 5,000 card reporting from HSBC, which is likely why they only gave me 3,200.

I would stay away from any user initiated CLI's,  even an 8000 CL would mean you would have to pay every penny you made for a full year into the card, and add in the 5000 from HSBC and you would be stuck paying for over a year and a half. and asking for that much credit at your income level seems to be begging for an FR, not sure how Amex would handle "income from gifts" not exactly a secured income stream, best to use the card once or twice pay in full, and sock drawer it untill your income increases and is documented with a W2 or 1099.

Re: Amex BCE Approved!

I haven't missed a payment in 2.4 years on my HSBC card, always PIF.  I'd like a charge card if it wasn't for the AF..  I also got approved for 6000 on a Freedom.  Knowing how stingy Chase is with limits, they seem to be okay with the fact that I have (or will have) way over with CLs than my income.

Edit: I never spend unless I can PIF.

Edit2: I rarely spend all of my income every year (rarely come close) , I have decent assets in checking and savings.

Re: Amex BCE Approved!

Not saying you would have a problem with the CL, but with AMEX, FR's are possible, and up to now you only had to state your income, during a FR you have to prove it to the financial side of AMEX and they probably aren't going to like the idea of using a gift as income, no way to document it or predict future occurances of the gifts.

Re: Amex BCE Approved!

Oh, I understand where thats coming from,  To be honest, I only wanted AmEx for the backdating capability and helping with my AAoA in the future.  I don't mind keeping it as a low limit, as the other cards makes my util around 2% or less even without  the AmEx card... Now it'll be like less than 1% more than likely.

Edit: If it goes higher than that its usually because my parents wanted to take advantage of a higher cash back that I may have on one of my cards..

Edit 2: I did choose Unemployed as my employer, they still approved me.

Edit 3: Apparentally I misquoted my UTIL, its currently around 2% and I guess with the new lines reporting it'll be around .5%..
