Amex Backdating Question

I initially got my Costco membership in March 2009.  However I let it expire for a while.  I renewed my membership in Sept 2014.  My newCostco card still has my 3/2009 date.on it.

Last week I apped for the Amex Costco card. I got the 14 day message.  I took it I was denied.  Today in the mail I was quite surprised to find my new Amex.  The member since date is 15.  My question is, should I Member since date be 2009, since thats when I first became a Costco member.

Thanks!

Re: Amex Backdating Question

No, the date that is on your AMEX card is your American Express member since date, not your costco member since date. Unless you have been a AMEX cardholder previously your member since date will be whenever you got the AMEX Costco.

Re: Amex Backdating Question

Really??...lol.... OH well.

For some reason, I had it in my head that Amex backdated this paricular card to your Costco membership start date.

I had a corporate card with a former employer years back. I guess it cant hurt to see if they can find that account and backdate to that account.

Just an FYI,Im not sure exactly what my FICO score was , but I know my EXP is in the 690-700 range. They approved me with about 35% Util.  Gave me a $7K CL, which is now my highest CL. 0% for 8 months.

I must say, it feels pretty good to finally get in with AMEX.

Ive learned so much this Forum!

Re: Amex Backdating Question

Not sure if they would backdate for being a previous Corporate cardholder. It is definitely worth a shot! Let us know if you try and what your results are, please.

Re: Amex Backdating Question

If you had a corporate account, tell them you had an account with them previously in (whatever year that account was open) and ask if they will adjust your account's Member Since Date to reflect that.

Don't ever use the words "backdate".

Corporate accounts can be hit or miss but the worst that can happen is they don't allow it.  You have nothing to lose.
