I have had severa differentl Amex Charge cards since 1998, 3 months ago I applied and was approved for the BCE . The date on the card says member since 1998. But today i was checking my fico reports , and its states account open 2012. I called and spoke to a supervisor and they told me they could not backdate this account since it was a revolver and not a charge account. Is that the correct answer to my question or not.

No, backdating has nothing to do with charge or credit.
PS - They've definitely become much more strict on backdating. I've seen recently many who were refused backdating, especially on AU cards.

Thanks for your response, guess I just used it and let it grow.

I don't understand why your fico would report 2012 when your card reads 1998. Amex usually reports the TL with the member since date automatically.

Thats the reason I called Csr, spoke with two csr and finally a supervisor. He stated the reason the card showed member since 1998, is because thats when I became a member . My charge card is reporting correct , just not this new account.

Call again. That isn't right unless policy has changed again. But it makes no sense. A lot of mixup with policy. Keep trying.

Thanks Crashem, I will later this week.. Another thing that was funny when i got transfered to the Supervisor, she stated the call was being recorded that was a first for me.

All of Amex's call these days are recorded.
Crashem is right. It doesn't make sense, unless there's another policy change where a charge can only be backdated for a charge, and a credit for a credit.

Don't argue too much. Just call back and try again.
