Hmmmm.....sounds like the gold card CSRs are a bit more accommodating.
Thanks for the info.

I have noticed that when I call in to the number on the back of my card and talk to a Rep they always say wait I need to transfer you to the zync department. It is very strange but so far ive received very good customer service so I cant complain.
The Zync has seperated customer service department than other Amex cards, just as Open is seperate from personal cards. Mainline CSR reps can't even see the existence of the Zync card on their screen, which is why they need to transfer the call whenever I used to inquire about my Zync.
Seems odd that the Zync CSR could help me with both my Zync and Gold but the Gold CSR had to give me a phone number to call to correct my issue with the Zync card.

I suspect that with Amex, there is a hierachy within the CSR department.
1. The most senior and well trained reps are those in the high spending/Centurion call centers.
2. Then the Platinum reps - all US based and very well trained.
3. The PR Gold, Gold, Green and Open CSRs.
4. The Blue and no annual fee CSRs.
5. Zync CSRs.
Whenever I had questions with my Zync card, the Platinum, Gold, or Open CSRs all said they couldn't even see the card on the their screen, and had to transfer me to a Zync rep everytime. When I called the number on the back of my Zync card, I have received foreign CSRs, where I've only gotten US reps from calling my Open or Platinum numbers.
I think Amex has the best CSRs reserved for fee based cards. I suspect they don't want no annual fee or low annual fee cards taking the time of the Platinum or Gold CSR numbers; so, rather than saying, "we won't help you," it's easier to say, "we can't help you, because it isn't on our screen." Reminds me of the time when Amex was sending out gift cards for people to close their accounts, and euphemistically called it, "moving on." Where clearly, they were saying, "we don't want you and here's some money to go away."
Update: both EX and EQ are reporting my Gold Card as 7/1/93 opening date. Just need TU to update. Thanks Amex!

congrats. Mind asking how much the old charge off was? As a friendly warning, someone with similar situation as you ended up being asked to pay off old charge off or lose all cards. Basically, Amex did not link your old account to your new ones. With the backdating, they are now linked. As such, that old payment history will now affect your internal score. If you end up in f/r flag, you might fall into same situation. So be gentle and let positive history build up.
@rtw wrote:Update: Decided to poke the bear. Called in to Amex this afternoon and they had a record of my 1993 account. Both my Zync and Gold are being shipped out with the member since 1993. And the credit bureaus should be updated with the new account opening dates. I did not get any questions as to the unpaid CO. Here's to 19 years of backdating and many thanks to American Express for giving me a second chance!
rtw thanks for this post and your persistence...i had a green card 87 which was CO'd and filed BK on it in 1998. This gives me hope that when I'm approved for a new Amex card that it will be backdated to 87...which will help my AAoA, which is currently about 31/2 yrs .....these boards have really helped me w/credit....thx
No problem creditballer. It's only because of folks on this board that I even attempted to test the Amex waters. I didn't know anythin about backdating.
I will be checking on this very soon.
I applied on 12-24, but finally got approved on 1-4-2013. Card is being mailed.
Orginal CSR saw I was a memeber back in the late 80's.
My charge off was not paid from 94/95. It appears at least for the moment I have not been blacklisted.
I will let you know when I log in after I get the card and see what my "member since date is".
Crossing all fingers and toes.
