Amex CLI story

So after reading about the 3x rule I decided to hit the luv button yesterday on my Blue card that has been open for 6months. Started at 5k and instantly approved for 15k yesterday.

Very cool and I am pleased. So I then jumped on chat with Amex a bit later and asked them if I would be eligible to apply for a CLI on my other Hilton Amex that I use a lot and the rep checked and verified that I am since it's been 6months on that card.

I was under the impression that you could only do 1 card per account per 6 months. The rep that I could do the other account as well?

Could it be because I have been a Amex member since 2007? Should I try it? I do not want a HP.

Re: Amex CLI story

Congrats on the increase!

1st of all once you're in wirh AMEX the only time you should see a HP is if you apply and are approved for a new card

Go hit the Hilton up for some more $$$$

If you get a CLI on both of them then it's a win and maybe we need to edit the 3X book.

Re: Amex CLI story

I received a CLI on one Amex card yesterday. Your post prompted me to request a CLI on my second card. The rep declined me and said I'll need to wait 6 months. No luck for me but I'm a newer member.

Here's hoping it works out for you!

Re: Amex CLI story

The CSR is incorrect.  You can only get one CLI on your Amex cards every 6 months no matter how many cards you have.

Re: Amex CLI story

Ok so I was about to do this but glad I waited and got more responses. So there is no reason for trying if the above is correct.

Had anyone ever been successful doing it? If not I am going to wait until I have had the Blue Card a year, then transfer 5k of that line to the Hilton and go for the 3x. Would that work?

Re: Amex CLI story

If the rep said you could and you didn't you will never know.  It won't hurt either way if you do try for it.

So if I try it Amex will not do a HP either way?

Re: Amex CLI story

I've gotten 4 CLIs from Amex without any HPs. You can call the rep and confirm, but I don't believe there's any harm in submitting the request.

Re: Amex CLI story

Only way to get a HP with AMEX is to apply and get approved for a new CC.

No, that isn't the only way.  People get HPs even when theyre denied and have an account.  While most often it will be a SP it can be and has been a HP and it's happening more often.  Anytime you apply for anything, whether it's a new account or a CLI you should be prepared for a HP.  If whatever you're seeking snt worth a HP then you might want to think twice about applying.
