Amex CLI

It's been a long time since I've requested a CLI on Amex. What is the best way to request it? Online? By phone? I can't find a love button online; all I am seeing is the "check spending ability" link. Is that it?

It's a SP, right? I have a freeze on my CRs, except for EX which I just lifted for today. Will that get me a HP?

Will they counter w/ a lower CL if I'm not approved for the entire amount?

Any tips or sugggestions?

Thanks! Smiley Happy

Re: Amex CLI

Online is the best way. It's under credit management. You can request up to 3x.

Re: Amex CLI

When you go to Account Services, Credit Management, do you not see an "Increase Line Of Credit" link?

Re: Amex CLI

I don't even remember how long it has been, but the last one I got was a SP and they did counter.

Re: Amex CLI

Does the 3x CLI work even if you have a fairly high SL, like 10K?

Yes it works in that you can request a 3X CLI but there is no guarantee that you'll get $30K or any increase.

Anecdotally, it used to also be that requesting a limit above $25K would lead to a greater chance that they would ask for income verification.  I haven't been active on the boards in quite a while, so maybe that is not the case anymore.  Even when people did report that, it was not a guarantee that they would request it.  I have a higher CL on my Amex SPG and I never had to provide income verification.  But a lot of people reported being asked when requesting above $25K.

It's still asked for at times but we see a lot of people getting limits above $25K without ever being asked for the 4506-T
